Emil Nolde was a German Expressionist painter and printmaker, celebrated for his bold use of color and emotional intensity. A member of the Expressionist movement, he created vibrant landscapes, dramatic seascapes, luminous flower paintings, and powerful religious scenes. His expressive brushwork and brilliant reds, yellows, and blues helped define early twentieth-century Expressionism.
Nature was one of his greatest inspirations, especially flowers, gardens, stormy seas, and the landscapes of northern Germany. He was also an accomplished watercolorist, producing luminous works that remain among the finest examples of Expressionist watercolor painting.
