Alfred Stieglitz was an American photographer, publisher, and one of the most influential figures in the development of modern art in the United States.
Stieglitz is best known for elevating photography to the status of fine art. Through his photographs. often focused on urban life, clouds, and intimate portraits, he demonstrated that photography could be as expressive and artistically powerful as painting. His famous Equivalents series of cloud photographs is considered one of the first intentionally abstract bodies of work in photography.
Stieglitz was also deeply connected to the painter Georgia O’Keeffe, whom he married and photographed extensively, creating one of the most important portrait series in art history.
